CCIE info: CCIE Written has been updated to version 2.0. Still no detail comes out.

As many should probably know, CCIE written exam has been updated in the 19th of January this year to version 2.0. I unfortunately could not pass the test before the update. So I gotta take the new version and I've been looking for some information about

the version 2.0 on a web. But other than the very brief description in the blueprint at the cisco web, there aren't any real info coming out yet.

CCIE Routing & Switching Exam Blue Print

This blueprint has too little info. I wonder if SRB,DLSW,SRT and stuff like that will be completely gone at the version 2.0.

As I was writing this, I found a post on a web saying that:

"The new version 2.0 will no include Cisco Device Operation section, SRB, DLSW, SRT, SR/TLB."

I have not confirmed this, but if this is true, it's a wonderful news . Studying for something that you never gonna use is too hard.

Hi,
I think you need to study for DLSW+ over Ethernet for laboratory exam.

Hello,

Thank you very much for your input. I always appreciate comments from a CCIE holder!

I didn't know the lab exam still coers DLSW+ over Ether. Well, it doesn't make sense to study only for CCIE written. If lab contains this topic, then I guess I've gotta study this.

Thanks again.

Dood,

What's the job market in Tokyo like? I myself will commence my CCIE journey once I recert my CCNP. I've been to japan a couple of times and have loved it. But I fear that working in Japan would be a totally different story as I've seen the long hours they work over there. Also do you need to be able to speak business level japanese?

Regards,
Eric

Hi Eric

Well, it probably depends on where you work and what kind of work you do. If you are looking for network consulting kind of job, u would definitely need to be able to speak business level Japanese.

But if you wannbe a network administrator of some non-Japanese company, you could probably get by without business level Japanese. And if you are lucky enough to become a network admin in some bank or security company based here, you can probably make much more money than the majority of the network engineers in Japan.

A few years ago, I had a couple of Indian friends who were CCIE holders and did not speak a word of Japanese. They all worked in security companies based in Tokyo and seemed to be making a comfortable living working.

Where are u working now? If you r in the States, there may not any financial benefit you can get from coming to Japan and work as network admin. I don't know about the average salary of nw engineers in where you r now.

Working as network admin in a bank may be a less challenging engineering wise as well. And you may be unlucky enough to get those snobbish bankers pissing you off every now and then.

But there were fewer CCIEs then and this cert is getting more and more popular. SO things may be different now.

Having said all that, it may be worth a try especially if you like it here.

Good luck on your CCNP recert. I'll post my study note here until I finish my journey. So please check back here when you want something to kill your time.

Best regards,
AG
